Free Drug Rehab in Ohio

Cost Shouldn't Stand Between You and Recovery

If you’re searching for free drug rehab in Ohio, you’re probably worried that you can’t afford treatment. That fear keeps a lot of people from getting help. The good news is that for many Ohioans, quality addiction treatment really can cost little or nothing. The most common way is through Ohio Medicaid.

Recovery Works Healing Center accepts all Ohio Medicaid plans for outpatient addiction and mental health treatment in the Dayton area. If you have Medicaid, or you qualify for it, you may be able to start treatment with us at no cost to you. Walk in for an assessment Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

How to Get Free Addiction Treatment in Ohio

1. Use Ohio Medicaid

Ohio Medicaid covers substance use disorder treatment, including assessments, outpatient and intensive outpatient programs, counseling, and medication-assisted treatment. Behavioral health services through Ohio Medicaid are generally available at little or no out-of-pocket cost. Learn more on our Ohio Medicaid page.

We accept every Ohio Medicaid managed care plan, including CareSource, Molina, Buckeye, Anthem Medicaid, Humana Healthy Horizons, AmeriHealth Caritas, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. We also accept traditional fee-for-service Medicaid.

2. Apply for Medicaid If You Don’t Have It

Many people who qualify for Medicaid don’t realize it. That’s especially true for adults with low or no income, people between jobs, and people who recently lost coverage. You can apply online through Ohio Benefits or through your county Job and Family Services office.

3. County ADAMHS Board Funding

Each Ohio county has an Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) board that helps fund treatment for residents who are uninsured or underinsured. In the Dayton area, that’s the Montgomery County ADAMHS Board. Eligibility and available funding vary.

4. Other Free Resources

  • SAMHSA National Helpline: 1-800-662-4357. Free, confidential, and available 24/7 for treatment referrals.
  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 if you’re in crisis.
  • Free peer support: Groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and SMART Recovery meet throughout the Dayton area at no cost.

What "Free Rehab" Usually Means and What to Watch For

“Free rehab” can mean different things. Some programs are fully funded by state or county dollars and have waitlists. Others are faith-based programs with work requirements. And some online listings use “free” just to get your phone number.

When you evaluate any program, ask:

  • Is the program licensed and accredited?

  • Does it offer evidence-based care, like counseling and MAT, and not just housing or meetings?

  • What exactly is covered, and will I get a bill later?

  • How soon can I start?

Recovery Works is Joint Commission accredited and LegitScript certified. We’ll tell you up front whether your plan covers treatment before you begin.

Professional and Caring

Our time with Recovery Works has been wonderful. Everyone we ever interacted with was very professional and caring. Our family had been in a state of crisis when we came in for help and they worked with us and helped us in our time of need. The individual therapy sessions were so good for our son and we were so pleased with his therapist, Jessica. Programs for teenagers/young adults are very hard to come by but Recovery Works offered exactly what we needed. I will always recommend them for anyone who is ever in need of services. Thank you, RWHC, for working with our family.
